1. Introduction
Academia Sync (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is a mobile application currently in development. The App is designed to help South African learners manage assignments, timetables, and study progress while staying aligned with the official Department of Basic Education’s Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs).
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use or interact with Academia Sync. Because the app is still in development and not yet publicly available, we do not collect, share, or process any user data at this stage.
2. Information We Plan to Collect
Once the app is publicly released, Academia Sync may collect the following types of information:
a) Account Information:
When you sign up, you may provide your name, grade, school name, subjects, and email address. This is managed securely through Supabase Authentication.
b) Usage Data:
We MAY collect anonymized usage analytics (e.g., how often users open the app, which features are most used). This helps improve performance and user experience.
c) Device Information:
We MAY collect limited technical data such as device model, operating system, and app version to help diagnose issues and optimize functionality.
d) Files and Media:
If you choose to upload attachments (e.g., images, PDFs, or videos for assignments), they are stored locally or securely in the app’s backend.
3. How We Use Information
Once operational, we will use user data to:
- Provide account-based features (authentication, saved progress)
- Sync curriculum content and assignments across devices
- Improve app performance and reliability
- Offer insights and analytics to help learners track progress
- Process payments securely through third-party providers like Paystack
4. How We Store and Protect Data
We use Supabase as our backend for authentication and data storage. Supabase is a secure, cloud-hosted service with built-in encryption and access control. Sensitive data (such as passwords) is never stored in plain text and all communication occurs over HTTPS.
Locally stored data (such as assignments or sessions) is handled through AsyncStorage, which is sandboxed and accessible only to the app.
5. Sharing of Data
Academia Sync does not sell or rent user information. Data may only be shared in the following limited cases:
- With trusted third-party providers (like Paystack for payments or YouTube API for educational videos)
- When required by law or government request
- With user consent
6. Your Rights
Once the app launches, you will have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your account information
- Withdraw consent to data processing
- Request data export for portability
7. Children’s Privacy
Academia Sync is designed for high school learners (ages 13 and above). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without verified parental consent.
8. Future Updates
Because the app is still in development, this policy will be updated before launch to reflect the actual data collection and privacy practices.
